Corners of my home

I have to be honest, and say that at present there aren't many corners of my home that I would want to share with anyone! - However, a couple of you have shown an interest, and so I thought I would do a weekly 'Corners of my Home' feature. We moved to this house in December 2006 and lets just say that I think the previous owner had been watching too much 'Changing Rooms' in the early 1990's - Our house is a myriad of terracotta, purple, green and aquamarine (sometimes used altogether!) - We do however always sit down as a family for every meal, and the dining room colour scheme was putting us off our food, so this was the first room we tackled - The shelves you can see on the picture are one of my favourite spots, as they hold lots of different family pics, none of the frames match, but they kind of all go together. We painted the fireplace white, which turned out really well, and above it, there is a large venetian mirror - you can just see in the reflection, that we have a black and white canvas of me and Hubby - the photograph is one taken in Summer 2006 by a professional photographer, when I appeared in a 7 page feature in 'Pregnancy and Birth' magazine. I hope you have enjoyed this peek inside my home - as I love looking at all your homes!

I have spent the morning wallpapering today (more about that in my next post), so this evening I will be taking it easy, with my feet up, doing a spot of knitting. I am making this jacket for myself - On the pattern it is fastened with a kilt pin, and the lady in the wool shop had made one with little beads dangling from it which was quite pretty, but I have another idea for fastening this jacket - hopefully it won't take me long to finish it - We are having a weeks holiday at the end of May, and I want to have it finished for then - my mum is probably laughing at this, as my knitting usually takes ages, not because I'm slow, but because I usually put it down and forget about it for ages, usually, if its something I am knitting Georgia, by the time I pick it up again, it no longer fits!

Hope you have all had a good weekend - Natalie x

Claire - the magazine feature was '9 magical months' and was when I was pregnant with Georgia, I kept a diary throughout the pregnancy, and went down to London for photoshoots at various stages - It followed right through to the birth and then the following issue there was a follow up of our first 6 weeks together - Natalie x

First off: I like your shelves VERY much! I think the photos go great together!
Cupcakes: I HAVE TO TELL THE CUPCAKE CONTESSA about your cupcakes ... well ... cupCAKE since one is already sold. She has just sewn cupcake pillows and a table cloth and collects all things cupcake ... I will direct her your way.
I am faithfully eradicating clutter from my house, because I have TOO MANY THINGS ... otherwise I'd snap that thing up in an instant. It would be great in a quiet bag at church.
(Also, blush, I don't understand how to buy things from another country, via post, with American money when their's is a different currency ... maybe you could instruct me?)
Next: the photos:
One of your commenters hit it on the head, and I had forgotten all about it. Choose a different layout. I believe mine is on CENTERED photos and it allows me to move them. I also was convinced I couldn't cut and paste and move mine til I tried over and over again ... and all of a sudden it got easy. They really do move.
SPACING TIP: Set your cursor down at the bottom right edge of your photo. click to set your cursor down. Hit ENTER and you will see a space appear underneath the photo. IF the photo below disappears, just press CONTROL Z and the photo will come back. Put your cursor down at the TOP LEFT of the photo and click on ENTER and the photo should move down. I have to try both ways some times. Sometimes the photos are fussy.
MOVING PHOTOS: Run your mouse, left to right, over the photo. A box like a frame will show up around the photo. Press CONTROL C. Sometimes you can click BACKSPACE right away and that first picture will go away. Other times you have to paste first, and THEN go back, drag mouse over photo, frame appears, THEN click backspace again to make it disappear. ... just depends on the computer's mood. LOL. Anyways ... drag mouse over, frame appears, CONTROL C (C for copy) scroll down to where you want your photo, set your cursor down, CONTROL V (V = paste ... I don't know why.)
This DOES work ... it just takes practice.

Good luck!

(Hope this ridiculously long comment helps.)

Love the wallpaper! when we moved into our house all the rooms were painted in lilac, and the radiators in dark green, strange people!
I got some lovely labels from a woman on etsy www.thedancingneedle.etsy.com they are embroidered in your choice of colour and font, on cotton tape also in a choice of colour and size. They are beautiful, but are a bit pricey at $1 (50p) each, but I tend to use them on the more special things I make.
Hope that helps,
Jessx

Changing Rooms has a lot to answer to, doesn't it, quick to put on, but a devil to take off! I must say you have decorated your corner very tastefully and I like to mix different frames together. I hope you manage to get some knitting done over the bank holiday weekend? x

lovely corner! can't wait to see more. It isn't quite home until you've put your mark on it - still got quite a lot of my house with the last owners wall paper etc, and we have been here 9 years! - will get round to it eventually.

Just discovered your blog so thought I'd say hello. Especially since you're in Yorkshire. I grew up in East Yorkshire so have fond memories of Filey and all the east coast. I now live down in Oxfordshire and it seems like forever since I've been up there. Love seeing corners of peoples homes so will be checking back to see what others you show us. Good luck with finishing the cardigan.

Hi Natalie,
Lovely to see a corner of your home. What a good idea showing a feature each week... that would make me tidy my house! not sure if my house is up for it yet though... lots of clutter to clear.
How special to have documented your pregnancy and lovely for Georgia to share with you too.
Have a lovely weekend.
